I downloaded the ALPS Dell Touchpad driver from the Dell's Drivers & Downloads Support for my PC under my Service Tag. You're better off making your own recovery media drive using the Dell OS Recovery Tool before something happens.) It comes with a well outdated version of Windows 10 and a bunch of missing drivers. (Hint: If you're customizing your Dell PC order, forget about opting for the recovery media USB drive. The recovery media doesn't include them either. I also lost all the Dell built-in wallpapers that came from the factory. Then I also had to manually update Windows 10 to version 1809 which was a lot of hassle because the update failed so many times when I tried to run the update automatically. I had to manually download Dell SupportAssist and a number of the drivers I believed are missing. It rather came with Windows 10 version 1511 (from 2015) and about one-fourth of all the drivers needed. It didn't even come with at least a 2017 or 2018 version of Windows 10.
So, I used the recovery media USB that came with the PC.Īpparently, when I used the recovery media to re-install Windows 10, it doesn't come with all the drivers as when I got my laptop from the Factory. The new problem is since I suffered a BSOD during a PC reset, it seems to have damaged or corrupted the Windows 10 installation files, so I unable to reset my PC, three failed attempts. After I replaced my RAM, it solved the some of the problems. What a bloody mission, but another God-damned windows problem bites the dust.My Dell Latitude 5580 RAM went bad triggering multiple BSOD even while I was trying to Reset my PC. I'm assuming it was a seperate program to control touchpad functions - after that the little pad usually by the clock that changes colour to show touchpad activity was gone. Solution (worked for me:) Whatever I tried nothing changed, so I went into add/remove programs (in control panel) and found the ALPS touchpad pointing-device program.
After just resorting to uninstalling the ALPS device itself from the device manager list I noticed the touchpad function would return to normal, only to revert back to semi-functional after windows rebooted, detected 'new hardware' and 'fixed' the issue by re-installing the touchpad. I have a dell latitude d610 on xp pro - after using driverrobot to do a full system driver update (highly recomended though regardless of the ensuing problem I think - solution below) my ALPS touchpad buttons stopped working - I figured twas a driver issue right, so I tried updating/reinstalling through windows and through the dell site, and same thing - the touchpad could tap and double-click, but could not drag icons or drag-highlight icons, and the buttons didn't work (even though in the mouse properties it had the right settings. Heya - I've been at this for hours and have read so many of these posts I think I'll do my part.
